Thinking Like A Chef – Pencil and Paper

Planning is the life blood of every chef. One of those steps is taking our ideas in our head and putting them down on paper.

Chefs draw as a way to plan how they think the dinner plate should look. They draw to make sure everything on that plate works with texture, appearance, esthetically pleasing, colorful. Chefs draw to communicate.

We are not expecting you to be artists. We are expecting you to be good communicators.

How to draw plate:

  1. Splotches and spooges, sticks and dots are ok. Stick figures work fine.
  2. Label what the items are.
  3. Tell us what it’s suppose to be too.
